I didn’t have any problems while producing my project , which was seeing which is better for planting tomato seeds? Water or Soil?
Broad Question:
Which way for planting tomato seeds is better to use? Soil or water?
Specific Question:
Which way to plant a tomato is healthier for the tomato? Soil or water?
Hypothesis:
The hypotheses i develop is that soil would be better because their is enough nutrients for the seeds to grow healthier and stronger than water will.
Graph of Hypothesis
Variables
Independent Variable:
Amount of nutrients.
Dependent Variable:
Amount of Soil and Water.
Variables That Need To Be Controlled:
Soil= How much it can grow 2 seeds in four weeks
Water= How much it can grow 2 seeds in four weeks
Vocabulary List That Needs Explanation
Dehydrated: Dehydrated is defined as the excessive loss of body fluid. Peat: Partially carbonized vegetable tissue formed by partial decomposition in water of various plants. Dilemma: An argument presenting two or more equally conclusive alternatives against an opponent.
General Plan
Potential Problems And Solutions
Problem: Accidentally putting water into the soil and putting the soil into the water. Solution: Put a tag on the water plant and put a tag on the soil so you don't get them mixed up.
Safety Or Environmental Concerns
Experimental Design
Number Of Trials:
Two
Number Of Subjects In Each trial:
One
When data will be collected
After about Two weeks after i do my experiment.
Number of Observations:
28
Where will data be collected?:
The data will be collected at my house.

April 14- May 3
Did experiment and then work on poster on April 30- May 3
Time Line
My time line is that I will get two seeds and put then put two seeds in soil and put two seeds in water. I will make eight tomato plants with soil and one with water. But, I have to keep the soil plant covered until after they spurt, then I will uncover them and give them sunlight, and give them water once in a while so they don't dehydrate. Then I will check on it once in a while, the same with the water plant. Then after about two weeks or three I will be ready and see if my hypotheses is correct or not. After that I will make a poster about my project and if my hypotheses was correct or not. Then I will bring it in into the science fair.
Background Research
Here are some interesting facts about tomatoes. Tomatoes are 93.5 percent water so it's obvious that watering is important. Soil would be best if you only use 1/2 inch of soil so you get best results. Although, soil is very important so it is very necessary to use soil very often or your plant will be dehydrated and die. Tomatoes don't require any special type of soil so basically any type of soil will work for a tomato plant. Even though any type of soil works, it still needs to receive organic materials so it gets the nutrition's it needs to stay healthy. Tomatoes should be located in sunlight for about 8 hours a day. Watering your tomato plant helps to protect them from the cold. Well-irrigated soil holds heat much better than dry soil. If you plant a tomato, don't let the seeds dry out before they germinate (grow) or they will get dehydrated and die, so that means water is better to use than soil for planting tomato seeds. Watering your tomato seeds correctly is the best way for success on planting your tomato seeds.
Stuff you need: 4 seeds, water, soil, and bowl/cup,
1. First, put 2 seeds in soil
2. Cover seeds and soil with plastic rap
3. Then, put 2 seeds in water
4. cover them with plastic rap
5.When the soil seeds spurt uncover
6. Then like every two days water the soil seeds until they look like the are ready.
7. Just let the water seeds grow and check on them every once in a while.

Results
The results are that soil is better for planting tomato seeds because my experiment showed that when you put two tomato seeds in soil and keep putting water once every two days, that it will grow like every two inches every two to three days.

Data Analysis
My graph shows that using just water, the tomato plant will not really make the plant grow as much as it should. Also, it shows that water doesn't really have enough nutrients because it didn't grow as much as it should of.
Conclusion
To my conclusion, soil is better for tomato seeds because then, they get the nutrients they need so they could grow healthy. Now, water doesn't really give it the nutrients because water is just water, their is no nutrients, it's just a liquid that doesn't have protein and nutrients.
Discussion
The reason for my experiment is so I know which is better for planting tomato seeds, so in the future I will be able to plant tomato seeds and know that they will grow healthy. Also, so I know what to use, like just to use soil or just use water?
